Last weeks sermon (after the Arapahoe School shooting)

Hello Salvationists and friends,

This past weeks message was on joy. It happened to fall just 2 days after the Arapahoe School shooting here in Centennial (just blocks from the Corps). We have several corps (church) kids attend the school. Please keep the entire school and all those effected in your prayers. Please also keep Claire Davis and her family in your prayers as she is still in the hospital.

Do remember that God can use even these tragic and terrible events to help us realize that we will all someday have this life end and we need to be know where we will spend eternity. Heaven is only for those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ by repenting of their sins and accepting Him as their Lord and Savior. Make sure you are right with Jesus today, life is short and precious.

The truth about hell

Hello Salvationists and friends,

Although I was very sick Sunday with an extremely sore throat, perhaps in part because the devil doesn't want us preaching on the truth about hell, it was a blessing to share God's Word. Be moved by the fact that there is a heaven to gain and a hell to shun. Be sure of your Salvation and share the good news with someone today.

Google Calendar and Salvation - is your life hidden with Christ in God?

Just a thought I want to get down somewhere...

This morning I went to the eye doctor to fix my broken glasses and I thought I should also schedule an appointment to get my eyes checked. When offered a reminder of my appointment date I held up my phone and said, "I got it - my whole life is in here".

Almost as soon as I said it I immediately had this scripture flood into my mind - Colossians 3:2-3 "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God."

In the practical juggling of my physical life I am not smart enough to manage "me" on my own. I require a written (although electronic) plan and a loving wife to help me remember anything and to stay on track. In some very real ways I would be "lost" if anything happened to google-calendar.

In a sad way I was telling the truth that my physical life is hidden in google calendar with my Iphone. Without these tools that I have come to order my life with I don't know what I'd do?

My every appointment, plan, event, and hope for the future, even my desire to plan something in the future is first put on my calendar or I will forget what I have declared worth addressing in my life. If it is not filtered by my phone via google I won't even be given the time to think about.

God's Word says, "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God."

How would our lives be different if we truly understood that our every appointment, plan, event, and hope for the future, even my desire to plan something in the future must first measured up to, hidden, and filtered through Jesus - and if it is not in accordance with His guidelines and priorities I would immediately declared it note worth addressing in my life.

My life is hidden in Christ now in God - When Christ looks at me He doesn't see "me", he sees me intermixed and made one with Jesus (a new man - the two made one in Jesus).

In the practical juggling of my WHOLE life I am not smart enough to manage "me" on my own. I require a written Word of God and a loving Savior to help me remember anything and to stay on track. In a very real way I am absolutely lost in anything happens to my relationship with Him.

Is your life hidden with Christ today?

Not just will your answer effect what you put on your schedule and the plans for your life, it will determine where you spend eternity - every second for the next millions upon millions of years forever.

If you aren't sure if you are right with God check out the "how to be saved tab" and make sure you are right with Him. Why not stop what you are doing and put on your calendar to set aside 30 minutes to read the section with God's Scriptures, set your mind on things above, and then prayerfully pray and listen to God's Holy Spirit and be right with Him today.

This is worth making time for.

As always you can email me any time at Mark.Thielenhaus@usw.SalvationArmy.org if you have questions or want someone to pray for you.

Blessings...

Hello friends and Salvation Army Soldiers,

Unfortunately we had recording problems so there is no audio this week, but sermon notes and my commentary are ready. See how Paul's value system is turned upside down and how God gives resurrection power to even a boring testimony.

What God has next for me in Colorado?

Today the Thielenhaus finds themselves having been led by God to Centennial Colorado. Michelle and I are preparing to be officially "installed" as the Corps Officers (pastors). It was very hard leaving Alaska as we have invested the past 11 years of ministry into others and along side those we consider family. In the midst of heart-felt goodbyes one of the highest praise I could receive came from one officer mentioning me as the one who always had gospel tracts to give to others, and another officer noted my regularly praying with waiters and waitresses (and later leaving tracts) in order to share the love of God with them. I certainly don't know God's full plan and vision for the Centennial Corps just yet, but I do know that personally this next stage of my life should be one of ever increasing boldness to verbally share the gospel of Jesus Christ. I also know one of my primary duties as a corps officer is to be used by God to equip His people for works of service so that the body of Christ might be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Lord help me lead by example and always be pointing others to you. Please show off Your Almighty power through this jar  of clay.

May the Centennial Corps continue to build on the work of those who have gone before us, may we continue to grow to become a group of red hot Salvationists always looking for who God would have us share His love with each day.

May God be glorified!

A time of transition

For those of you who are connected with this page you will certainly notice that there has been virtually no activity for some time, about the same amount of time that I was sent to work for Divisional Headquarters in Alaska as the Divisional Youth Secretary. God has now called The Salvation Army to once again give us our "marching orders" and transfer us to be the Corps Officers of The Salvation Army Centennial Corps in Colorado. I write first to ask for your prayers. We know this is the Lord's will and we are excited to go back to being Corps Officers, but as always we ask for the Lord's blessing on all the families invloved when Salvation Army Officers are moved. It is my hope that shortly after the transition I will once again be able to blog about the things of evangelism and verbally sharig our faith. I claim God's Word from Deut 31:8 that the Lord Himself has gone before us and will go with us, I am in no way afraid of what may come, the Lord's Kingdom will advance.

Thank you for your ongoing prayers,

Major Mark Thielenhaus
